Hello, and welcome to the Special Sauce blog.  Maybe you’ve heard about Special Sauce and maybe you haven’t.  Either way, you’re here now so let’s chat…

Special Sauce started almost 50 years ago.  Don’t believe us?  You might remember a little Alfred Hitchcock film called “The Birds”.  We were on set there selling fish tacos to cast and crew.  “Fred” Hitchcock approached us and liked the shirt our guy was wearing….BOOM!  Special Sauce was born.  See the photo we dug up below from the Special Sauce archives….

But Special Sauce isn’t a brand we wanted to rush out there. Yes, we had a launch party at Studio 54 in 1978 but even then we weren’t ready to go commercial.  We’ve dabbled in working with various artists and people you may know like…

We even got into the fitness/sports scene before all those energy drinks, michael jordan and everyone else.

But now the time is right.  Spurned by a brand we felt cheated people on what it’s all about, we decided to crack some jokes, make some shirts and see what happens. We might not sell a single one, but that’s OK with us.  We did this to learn about ourselves.  We couldn’t head out to the Degoba System and book some time with Yoda, so we called up Mojo Laboratories and asked them to help with this creative outlet.

The original Special Sauce shirt is now available for sale at www.dippedinsauce.com.  We set up a little store and offer the shirt in 3 colorways.  Moving forward, you can most likely expect graphic tees from us.  They’ll all be uniquely Special Sauce in nature.  We’ve also got some collaborations with friends in the works.  Maybe a band, maybe a brand…who knows?  Actually we do, but we read a book on marketing and it told us we should hint at stuff like that.  We’re going to try and keep costs low, quality high and the designs fun.

The one thing we want to make clear is that we’re here to enjoy the view.  We all have day jobs that help contribute to what Special Sauce is about.  We won’t lie and say this is about fun when we are really assembling a Board of Directors and submitting our financials to publications for their consideration.  So stick around.  We’ll tell you stories, make some shirts, eat some sushi, talk about Jackpot and try to enjoy the time we’ve got together.
